Coralville, Iowa – The Iowa Heartlanders and the Kalamazoo Wings complete a three-game series Saturday at 7:05 p.m. on Teddy Bear Toss night, presented by Steindler Orthopedic Clinic.Iowa is 1-1-0-0 through the first two games of the week against Kalamazoo and dropped 4-1 Friday at Xtream Arena. Zach White scored Iowa’s only goal in the third frame.The Heartlanders and K-Wings have played five times already this season and Iowa is 1-2-1-1. The Wings and Fuel are Iowa’s most-common opponents this regular season (11 games vs. each).Saturday is Iowa’s final home game of the month; the team plays four straight at Kansas City before returning to Xtream Arena Jan. 4. All bears thrown on the ice for the Heartlanders Teddy Toss will be donated to Toys For Tots for those in need this holiday season.Cole Stallard scored the first-ever Heartlanders Teddy Bear Toss goal last December vs. Toledo in an eventual shootout victory against the conference champions. Joe Widmar scored the shootout winner for the team’s first-ever victory against the Walleye.The first ever Teddy Bear Toss originated in 1993 with the Kamloops Blazers (WHL); future NHL defenseman Brad Lukowich scored and fans threw more than 2,400 bears on the ice.The record for most Bears thrown on the ice is held, coincidentally, by the Hershey Bears (AHL). In January 2022, fans tossed more than 52,341 bears on to the ice and the game was delayed by more than 40 minutes while cleaning up the Bears.Big Game, TV Game Saturday’s Teddy Bear Toss game will be broadcasted on Mediacom Channel 22. It’s the third “Big Game, TV Game” of the season; Iowa won the last Nov. 26 against Cincinnati with an overtime goal from Brendan Robbins.The Heartlanders and MC22 (locally channel 22, 722 and 822 for Mediacom television subscribers) will broadcast seven games on the channel this season. Next, the Heartlanders played Cincinnati twice, Kansas City once, Trois-Rivieres twice and Newfoundland in three straight games.The next time Iowa plays an opponent for a standalone game will be in February.
