Coralville, Iowa – The Iowa Heartlanders, proud ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild and Iowa Wild, oppose the Fort Wayne Komets for the third straight day Sunday at 2:05 p.m.Sunday concludes Iowa’s six-game home stand. The Landers have 18 home games remaining this regular season.The Heartlanders fell, 2-1, Saturday on D.C. Komets goaltender Ryan Fanti denied 42 shots to best Iowa, including 15 in the third period. The game was tied at one entering the third. Tye Felhaber’s strike at the 12:57 mark proved to be the game winner for the Komets. The scoring opened 13:14 into the first period when the Komets’ Samuel Dove-McFalls redirected a pass from Felhaber in the crease to put Fort Wayne up, 1-0. At 4:37 in the second, Yuki Miura scored Iowa’s lone goal to tie the game 1-1. Miura received the pass from James Sanchez, faked the shot to the right, and snuck the puck past the left pad of the goalie.3-in-3 finaleSunday is the final game of three straight between Iowa and Fort Wayne. This is Iowa’s second straight week hosting a three-in-three. Next week, Iowa visits Fort Wayne and Wheeling for three straight days, culminating with the three-in-three finale on Sunday, Feb. 5 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.Iowa plays nine “3-in-3’s” this season and this is the team’s fourth. Fort Wayne has 15 of them this season, accounting for 45 of the team’s 72 games. This is the team’s seventh “3-in-3,” meaning that the Komets still have eight to go with 11 weekends left in the regular season. February around the corner The Heartlanders are on the road for five games over the next two weeks. Next week, Iowa visits Wheeling for a pair of games on Friday, Feb. 3 and Saturday, Feb. 4, followed up by a road game at Fort Wayne Sunday, Feb. 5.Following today’s game, Iowa is on the road for all but one of the team’s next six games, a home showdown Feb. 8 vs. Indy. In February, Iowa plays Wheeling five times, Indy thrice, Kalamazoo twice and Toledo and Fort Wayne once.By the time February is over, Iowa will have 21 games remaining – 10 home and 11 road – in the season’s final two months.This Day In Heartlanders HistoryJanuary 29, 2022 was one of the most-significant days of the Heartlanders inaugural season. Despite falling to the Kalamazoo Wings at home, 3-2, Captain Kris Bennett came back to the Heartlanders from the AHL Iowa Wild and played in that game against the K-Wings. Ryan Kuffner teamed up with Bennett for a goal that day.Bennett scored 35 goals last season and was named ECHL Rookie of the Year. He scored 23 goals in two months after returning to the ECHL on Jan. 29.
