Novak and Iowa battle for first point of season in 4-3 OTL

 

Coralville, Iowa – The Iowa Heartlanders, proud ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild and Iowa Wild, received two goals from Pavel Novak, but Jarrod Gourley scored on the first shot of overtime to lead the Rapid City Rush to a 4-3 overtime victory Friday at Xtream Arena. 

Novak’s first came on a two-on-one halfway through the first, his first goal as a professional in North America. His second tally gave Iowa a 3-2 advantage at 9:04 of the third. Four minutes later, Gourley scored his first of two goals, putting a seeing-eye shot off a defender and in from 60-feet away. 

Liam Coughlin also scored for Iowa, tying the game on a ricochet at 15:47 of the second.

Jesse Jacques registered two points.

Peyton Jones made 22 saves in defeat. Iowa out shot Rapid City for the second straight game. Connor Murphy blocked 25 shots for his first professional win.

The Heartlanders are on the road for the team’s next four games, starting next Sat., Oct. 28 at 7:05 p.m. vs. Wichita. 

Iowa is next at home to start a six-game home stand on Wed., Nov. 8 at 6:35 p.m. vs. Kalamazoo.
