Heartlanders seek third straight win vs. Wings

Coralville, Iowa – The Iowa Heartlanders, proud ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild and Iowa Wild, have won back-to-back games and square off with the Kalamazoo Wings Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Saturday marks the third straight game between Iowa and Kalamazoo.

Saturday’s game features two special promotions
- Special-priced tickets for Veterans and active/reserve military members at this link

The Heartlanders last played Kalamazoo Thursday and won, 2-1, behind 29 saves from Peyton Jones and a game-winning goal from Will Calverley in the final six minutes. In the Wednesday victory, 3-1, Iowa used a Jake Durflinger empty-net strike and 24 saves from Jones. The Landers are also at home for three games next week vs. Utah, Nov. 15 at 10:35 a.m. (Field Trip Day), Nov. 17 at 6:35 p.m. (Military Appreciation Night) and Nov. 18 at 6:05 p.m.

Need to know
- Iowa’s win Thursday was the team’s first come-from-behind victory of the season; Iowa allowed a goal in the opening minute, then did not allow a goal for 59 minutes to end the game in the 2-1 win.

Will Calverley scored his first goal (a game-winning strike) with Iowa Thursday, his first tally since his game-winning goal in game 3 of the 2023 Kelly Cup Finals with Florida.
The Heartlanders are 2-1-1-0 at home this season.

Season-series round-up
Iowa hosts Kalamazoo one more time this week and six total times this season as part of the 11-game series. Coincidentally, this season series is loaded with homestands; Iowa hosts the first three games and the last three games, while the Wings are home for the “middle five” of the series.

The games are pretty well balanced as well (four in November, two in December, three in February, two in April).

Interestingly, Iowa has played Kalamazoo the most of any Central Division foe every year of Heartlanders history (ten matchups in year one, 11 in year two).

Early this season, four Landers have two points each to lead all players in the series (Jake Durflinger, Landon Kosior, Davis Koch, Odeen Tufto).

Saturday nights at Xtream

Today’s contest is the first of 11 Saturday home games of Iowa’s season. Last season, Iowa got a point in eight of 12 Saturday home games, winning six of them (6-4-2-0).

Iowa’s 11 Saturday home games are mainly in the second half of the season; four happen in the final five weeks of the season and Iowa is at home for 12 of the final 15 games of the regular season.

By contrast, Iowa’s longest road trip in team history is a few weeks away; from Nov. 22-Dec. 10, the Heartlanders play ten straight games on the road in five Central Division cities (Kalamazoo, Fort Wayne, Toledo, Cincinnati, Wheeling).
