Coralville, Iowa – The Iowa Heartlanders won their first game of the season, 3-1, over the Kalamazoo Wings behind goals from Yuki Miura, Nick Campoli and Jake Durflinger Wednesday at Xtream Arena. Miura’s goal opened the scoring 9:07 into the first period after he received a pass from Odeen Tufto and fired it from the left circle. Forty-eight seconds later, Campoli fired a rebound in front of the net to give Iowa a 2-0 advantage.
At 15:04 of the second period, Erik Bradford scored off a nifty pass from Brad Morrison past a diving Peyton Jones to make it a one-score game.
Late in the third period, the puck pinballed from Davis Koch to Louis Boudon and then to Jake Durflinger, who broke away for an empty-net goal, his second of the season.
Jones finished the night with 24 saves, his first win ever with Iowa.
Jonathan Lemieux saved 35 of 37 between the pipes for Kalamazoo.
Iowa takes on Kalamazoo Thurs., Nov. 9 at 6:35 p.m. and Sat., Nov. 11 at 7:05 p.m. Next week, Iowa is home three times against Utah. On Wed., Nov. 15, it’s Field Trip Day pres. by MidAmerican Energy Company, with a special 10:35 a.m. puck drop. The Heartlanders host the Grizzlies again for Military Appreciation Night pres. by GreenState Credit Union on Fri., Nov. 17 at 6:35 p.m. and then complete the six-game homestand on Sat., Nov. 18 vs. Utah at 6:05 p.m.
