Heartlanders have points in nine straight games

 

Wheeling, WV – The Iowa Heartlanders, proud ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild and Iowa Wild, complete a busy week at the Wheeling Nailers Sunday at 3:10 p.m. Iowa has points in nine straight games, a team record (8-0-0-1 record), and steamrolled Wheeling, 6-2, Saturday at Wesbanco Arena.  

 

The Heartlanders are playing their fourth game in five days. Over the trip, the team has travelled to three Central Division cities – Kalamazoo, Fort Wayne and Wheeling. 

 

Sunday is the fourth game of a ten-game road trip.

 

Iowa is next at home Dec. 15-17 vs. Toledo.

Need to know
- The Heartlanders nine-game points streak is the longest streak in team history. During the streak, Iowa is 8-0-0-1. The Heartlanders have outscored opponents by 14 during the streak (29 GF, 14 GA).

- Hunter Jones won his first game of the season Saturday at Wheeling with 29 saves. 

- Iowa is 8-1-1-1 this month and have already secured the winningest November in team history.

Budgell strikes twice

Forward Brett Budgell generated his first two goals and three points of the season, tallying Iowa’s fifth and sixth goals in a 6-2 win Saturday. The second-year forward scored a power-play goal and an even-strength goal. He played the first two games of the regular season with Iowa, then was called up to AHL Iowa for nine games.

 

Budgell scored 16 goals and 52 points for Newfoundland last season and signed an AHL deal with the Iowa Wild this summer. 

 

Iowa first period the “best” in team history

The Heartlanders scored four times in the first period and did not allow a goal, the first time in team history they’ve led by four goals after the opening 20 minutes.

 

Will Calverley, Louis Boudon, Odeen Tufto and Davis Koch scored. Calverley has five goals and 11 points this season, Boudon’s power-play goal gave Iowa a 2-0 lead, Tufto scored his first of the season and Koch leads Iowa with ten goals this season. 

 

The Landers received two more strikes from Brett Budgell.

 

Road trip mileage update

The Heartlanders are in the third game of the team’s franchise record ten-game road trip. So far, the club is 760 miles through an expected 3400-mile journey. After this Sunday’s trip home, Iowa will have about 1400 miles of the trip completed, with more road games to come in Cincinnati and Toledo next weekend.
