Cincinnati, OH – Despite tying the game three times, the Iowa Heartlanders fell to the Cincinnati Cyclones in overtime, 5-4, Friday at Heritage Bank Center. Kamerin Nault evened the game, 4-4, with ten minutes left in the third period to force overtime, but Cincinnati's Jake Gaudet scored the game-winner two minutes into the overtime period. Jake Durflinger registered a career-best three assists. Iowa also trailed 1-0 and 3-2.
The scoring opened 10:32 into the first period with Roman Achan’s first goal of the season. Iowa answered six minutes later after Landon Kosier found the back of the net to tie the game, his first goal as a pro. Less than a minute later, Louis Boudon gave the Heartlanders the lead, 2-1, with assists from Yuki Miura and Durflinger. With just two minutes left in the first period, Steven MacLean tied the game up, 2-2.
In the second period, Patrick Polino gave the Cyclones the lead 3:22 into the period. Nick Campoli tied the game up again at the 8:16 mark on a short-handed goal behind Durflinger’s third assist of the game. Eight minutes later, Gaudet scored his first goal of the night for Cincinnati to retake the lead.
Hunter Jones finished the night 27 for 32 between the pipes for Iowa.
Olof Lindbom saved 23 of the 27 shots on goal for Cincinnati.
Iowa visits Cincinnati Sat., Nov. 4 at 6:35 p.m. to wrap up a four-game road trip.
Iowa starts a six-game home stand on Wed., Nov. 8 at 6:35 p.m. vs. Kalamazoo. The team takes on Kalamazoo on Wed., Nov. 8 at 6:35 p.m., Thurs., Nov. 9 at 6:35 p.m. and Sat., Nov. 11 at 7:05 p.m. The next week, Iowa is home three times against Utah. On Wed., Nov. 15, it’s Field Trip Day pres. by MidAmerican Energy Company, with a special 10:35 a.m. puck drop. The Heartlanders host the Grizzlies again for Military Appreciation Night pres. by GreenState Credit Union on Fri., Nov. 17 at 6:35 p.m. and then complete the six-game homestand on Sat., Nov. 18 vs. Utah at 6:05 p.m.
