Another week on the road closes in Toledo

Toledo, OH – The Iowa Heartlanders, proud ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild and Iowa Wild, complete their first three-in-three of the season at the Toledo Walleye Sunday at 4:15 p.m. 

 

Iowa has played their last six games against the Central Division, part of a stretch of 17 straight games against Central Division opponents. 

 

Saturday at Toledo, Iowa took 45 shots on Walleye netminder John Lethemon (42 saves) in a 5-3 loss. Iowa surrendered an empty-net goal to Trenton Bliss, who topped Toledo with two goals and three points. 

 

Toledo has 24 points, first in the Central Division. Iowa is third with 19 points. 

 

Iowa is next at home Dec. 15-17 vs. Toledo.

Need to know
- David Spacek scored his first ECHL goal Saturday, cutting Toledo’s lead to one in the third period. The former fifth-round pick of the Minnesota Wild joined Iowa from the Iowa Wild on Saturday. 

- Yuki Miura scored for the second straight game Saturday, the first time he’s scored in back-to-back games this season.

- Iowa is playing their seventh straight road game.

3-in-3 is in the diet 
Iowa is completing its first three-in-three of the season, part of a busy stretch where the Heartlanders play five straight three-in-threes this month. The Heartlanders schedule is relatively balanced, with only seven three-in-threes this season.

 

Toledo, by contrast, has 13 instances playing three consecutive days this season. 

 

All-time Series

The Heartlanders have won four games ever against Toledo and bested the Walleye in the last game of the 2022-23 season series, 3-1. In that March game, Jake Durflinger (goal), Louis Boudon (assist) and Yuki Miura (assist) all generated points, while Hunter Jones dominated with 32 saves. 

 

The Heartlanders have won three one-goal games ever against Toledo. 

 

The Walleye have scored the game’s first goal against Iowa 15 times in 16 all-time matchups. 

 

Road trip mileage update

The Heartlanders are in the second weekend of the team’s franchise record ten-game road trip. So far, the club is about 2100 miles through an expected 3400-mile journey. Next weekend, Iowa will add another 850 miles on the bus to complete the road trip.

The Heartlanders rematch the Walleye Sunday at 4:15 p.m. The Heartlanders visit Kalamazoo Fri., Dec. 8 at 6:00 p.m., take on the K-Wings again Sat., Dec. 9 at 6:00 p.m. and finish the road trip Sun., Dec. 10 at 4:00 p.m. at Fort Wayne.
