Iowa’s January slate concludes Saturday

Indianapolis, IN – The Iowa Heartlanders, proud ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild and Iowa Wild, rematch the Indy Fuel at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum Saturday at 6:00 p.m.

The teams are playing their second game of a six-game season series.

Friday was the first game of the series and the Fuel grabbed a 4-1 win to open the season series. Louis Boudon scored the Heartlanders’ only goal.

Indy scored three times in the final period, besting Hunter Jones after he made 19 stops in the first. Indy powered 17 shots on goal and scored twice on Jones in the third, plus an empty-net strike.

Need to know

- Louis Boudon has goals in back-to-back games and points in three straight, giving him two goals and four points in the last three contests.

- The Heartlanders had a four-game road points streak snapped Friday vs. the Fuel.

- Friday’s game was the first time this season Iowa failed to score in the opening two periods.

All-time series

The Heartlanders and Fuel have played 20 times and Iowa is 6-12-2-0 ever vs. Indy.

Some of the most memorable games in Iowa history have come vs. the Fuel. Iowa’s two all-time wins at the Farmers Coliseum have been particularly noteworthy. Last February, Iowa defeated the Fuel, 4-2. The game came a day after the Heartlanders bus had minor travel disruptions and the residents of Waynetown, Indiana welcomed the Heartlanders into their town of 961 during travel to Indianapolis.

In 2021-22, Jake Smith and Derek Whitmore scored for Iowa in a 2-1 win at the Fuel in Jan. 2022.

Road trip continues next week

The Heartlanders continue a five-game road trip at Kalamazoo for back-to-back games next Friday and Saturday. Iowa has four road trips that last at least five games this season (10, 7, 7 and 5), comprising 29 of the team’s 36 road contests. Iowa has already completed the ten-game road trip and one of the seven-gamers.

That ten-game road trip in November-December is the longest any team in the NHL, AHL and ECHL has to endure this season and the Heartlanders went .500 over that trip (4-4-2-0).

Miura makes his case in year 3

Following a three-assist game Wednesday vs. Cincinnati, forward Yuki Miura is tied for the team lead in assists among active Heartlanders with 14, even with Casey Dornbach and Louis Boudon. In particular, he has found renewed chemistry with his former collegiate teammate Louis Boudon (Boudon and Miura are tied in assists). The two factored in on back-to-back goals in the second period Wednesday.

Miura has four goals and 18 points this season, putting him on target to approach his career high in goals (11) and points (30) with about half the season to go.
