PREVIEW: Heartlanders and Nailers rematch Saturday

Coralville, Iowa – The Iowa Heartlanders, proud ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild and Iowa Wild, play their final home game of the month against the Wheeling Nailers Saturday at 6:05 p.m.

 

Friday, the Nailers scored the final three goals of the game to win, 4-1. Wheeling scored twice in the first, taking the lead for good with 12 seconds to go in the frame.

 

Iowa is two points back of Wheeling for sixth in the Central. 

 

The Heartlanders head to the road for five straight games and return to Xtream Arena on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 6:35 p.m. vs. Kalamazoo.

First time at home vs. Wheeling 

This is the Heartlanders' first weekend against the Nailers at home this year. In the 2022-23 season, Iowa had 4-1-1-0 record at Xtream Arena against the Nailers. Yuki Miura was one of the point leaders against the Nailers with seven total points (3g). The most penalty minutes the teams had against each other in a game last season happened Feb. 18, 2023 at Xtream Arena – 86 combined (35 by Iowa).

 

Season Series 2023-24

The Heartlanders are 1-2-0-0 in the season series against the Nailers. Friday was Iowa’s first home game of the season against Wheeling. 

 

Following this weekend, Iowa has two more months to prepare for its final series of the season against Wheeling; Mar. 13, Mar. 15 and Mar. 16 at Xtream Arena. 

 

The teams play seven times this season, with five of the games in Coralville. 

 

All-time series

Iowa is 10-8-2-0 against Wheeling ever, and the in-depth numbers from the all-time series demonstrate how even the series has been. 

 

Both Iowa and Wheeling have scored the game’s first goal ten times. Iowa has come from behind to win three times, while the Nailers have done it twice. 

 

All-time, Iowa has scored 66 goals to Wheeling’s 64 in the head-to-head matchups. 

 

The Heartlanders have won six games at Wesbanco Arena and gotten at least a point six times in games contested in Coralville.

 

 

Next up
Iowa takes to the road for five straight games beginning Wed., Jan. 24 at 6:35 p.m. vs. Cincinnati. The Heartlanders next oppose Indy for the first two games of the season series on Jan. 26 at 6:00 p.m. and Jan. 27 at 6:00 p.m.

 

The Heartlanders take on Kalamazoo on Wed., Feb. 7 at 6:35 p.m. at Xtream Arena. Iowa hosts Country Night, presented by KISS Country, on Fri., Feb. 9 at 6:35 p.m. vs. Cincinnati.
