Heartlanders conclude road trip Saturday

Kalamazoo, MI – The Iowa Heartlanders, proud ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild and Iowa Wild, play their second of three straight against the Kalamazoo Wings Saturday at 6:00 p.m.


The Heartlanders bested the Wings, 2-1, Friday night for their fifth win of the season series (5-1-1-0 record). Yuki Miura scored the game-winning goal with 1:52 to go, elevating it over Hunter Vorva for his first game-winning goal of the season.  


Iowa is playing its final game of the weekend and returns home for seven straight games starting next Wednesday vs. Kalamazoo at 6:35 p.m.


The K-Wings visit Fort Wayne Sunday, then come to Coralville Wednesday.  


Iowa remains six points back of Indy for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Central Division. The Heartlanders trail the Wings by two points in the Central Division.

Need to know

- Yuki Miura scored his first game-winning goal of the season Friday and his first game-winning strike since Dec. 17, 2022, an overtime-winner at home vs. the Wings. 

- Iowa has won three of their last four games (3-1-0-0) and have at least a point in five of their last six road contests (4-1-1-0).  

- Iowa won their second road game of the series Friday. 


All-time series 

The Heartlanders and K-Wings have arguably had the most-interesting all-time series of any Heartlanders divisional opponent; Iowa has won 15 times in 28 games against Kalamazoo and 14 of the series all-time games have been decided by one goal. Of the 28 games, 19 have been decided by one or two goals. 


Iowa has five come-from-behind wins against Kalamazoo and the Wings have overcome deficits to win four times. 


It’s been a razor-thin margin both home and away. The Heartlanders are 9-3-2-1 (9 wins, 6 losses) in games at Xtream Arena. Iowa has taken six of the first 13 away games in the series (6-3-4-0).


Season series 

The Wings have scored the game’s first goal four times in the series, but Iowa is 2-1-1-0 when allowing the first goal. 


Overall, Will Calverley leads the Heartlanders in goals (3) in the series. Louis Boudon tops Iowa with six points (5a).


Eric Bradford leads all players with seven points (2g).


Jonathan Lemieux has played in five of the six games against the Heartlanders, winning twice. 


Drew DeRidder won his first game against his former team Friday with 31 saves. 


Say goodbye to the Celery City

Saturday is the final time the Heartlanders visit Wings Event Center this season; Iowa is 2-1-1-0 this season at Kalamazoo. The final three games of the 11-game series are at Xtream Arena on Feb. 7, Apr. 10 and Apr. 12. 


This marks the earliest in a season (game 42) that Iowa will conclude its road games against Kalamazoo. 


Each of the last two seasons, the teams have played in either March or April at Wings Event Center

The Heartlanders start a seven-game homestand vs. Kalamazoo on Wed., Feb. 7 at 6:35 p.m. at Xtream Arena.
