Heartlanders wrap up 7-game home stand Wednesday

Coralville, Iowa – The Iowa Heartlanders, proud ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild and Iowa Wild, complete a season-long seven-game homestand Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. vs. Wichita.

The Heartlanders are looking for a late-month reversal of fortune after suffering a 5-2 loss to the Indy Fuel Saturday. In the game, Iowa fought back from a 2-1 deficit to tie the contest, but Indy scored back-to-back goals in a minute span in the final five minutes to best Iowa.

Despite the loss, it marked the ninth time in the last ten games Iowa has allowed fewer than two goals in the opening two periods.

Wichita has won back-to-back games for the first time since Jan. 13-14. On Sunday, Kobe Walker scored the game-winning goal in a 5-2 victory over Tulsa. Trevor Gorsuch made 45 saves in victory, the second time this month he’s stopped that many (50 saves in win vs. KC, Feb. 4).

On Oct. 28, Xavier Pouliot scored the game-winning goal with six minutes to go in the third for a 4-3 Thunder win. Hunter Jones made 32 saves, but Trevor Gorsuch took the victory with a 30-save performance (3 GA). The teams combined for 106 PIM (65 by Wichita), 80 of which came at the 20:00 mark of the third period.

The next day, the teams were tied in the final minute until Bradley Marek scored the go-ahead goal at 19:05 of the third. Brayden Watts tallied an empty-net goal seconds later and Wichita won, 4-2.

Iowa plays six of their next 14 games against Wichita.
