Wednesday night home showdown at Xtream Arena

Love not typically in air this season series

Coralville, Iowa – The Iowa Heartlanders, proud ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild and Iowa Wild, host the Indy Fuel on Valentine’s Day Wednesday at 6:35 p.m.

Indy is making their first trip to Xtream Arena. The Heartlanders are 1-1-0-0 in the season series and Iowa has scored one more goal than the Fuel in the series, 8-7. The last time these teams played Jan. 27, Iowa and Indy combined for 89 penalty minutes.

Last week, Iowa picked up three of a possible six points (1-1-0-1) and played three one-goal games. The Heartlanders beat Cincinnati, 4-3, Friday and lost in a shootout Wednesday.

Five straight Heartlanders games have been decided by one goal; coincidentally, the last time the Heartlanders did not play a one-goal contest was against Indy, a 7-3 win on Jan. 27.

The Heartlanders are seven points back of Fort Wayne for the fourth and final playoff spot. Iowa is one game below hockey .500 (19-20-5-2).  Indy has won four straight games and swept last-place Atlanta at home last week.

Iowa’s seven-game homestand continues Friday at 6:35 p.m. at Xtream Arena for Star Wars Night against the Indy Fuel.

- Will Calverley has scored in back-to-back games, his first two goals since Dec. 1.

Scouting the Heartlanders

The Heartlanders have earned at least a point in five of their last six games, a streak that began against Indy Jan. 27. Over that span, Iowa is 4-1-0-1 and has allowed 13 goals. That represents the second-best six-game defensive stretch of Iowa’s season, with the only other better span coming during Iowa’s franchise-record seven-game winning streak and nine-game points streak in November.

Louis Boudon tops active Heartlanders with ten goals and 29 points.

Casey Dornbach and Yuki Miura are second on the team with 24 points.

Drew DeRidder has won six games since Jan. 7, leading the team. Over the last nine games, he has surrendered 21 goals (2.29 GAA, .930 save percentage).

Scouting the Fuel

The Fuel have won four straight games, one off their best streak of the season. Indy has outscored opponents 19-11 in those four contests. Last week in a three-game sweep over Atlanta, Cameron Hillis scored four goals and six points, tied with Kyle Maksimovich (2g) for most points on the team.

Hillis, a former Montreal Canadiens forward, has scored a team-best 48 points (15g). He, Jon Martin (16g) and Maksimovich (15g) are the team’s top-three goal scorers.
