All-Time Series - Sunday

Iowa won at least one game at home against the Thunder in each of their first three seasons.

This weekend is the second time ever Iowa is hosting a three-game week against Wichita.

Coaching Comparison

Derek Damon and Bruce Ramsey have coached against each other in each of the first three seasons these teams have played; Damon was an assistant coach on the inaugural season team before stepping into the Head Coach role for year two.

Ramsey has been a for most of the last 20 seasons, first started in the 2002-03 season in the ACHL and UHL. This is is 5th year with Wichita and he’s also been a Head Coach for the Tulsa Oilers in the ECHL.

Both players had long professional careers; Damon skated for parts of 14 seasons in the pro game in North America and overseas, while Ramsey accumulated more than 3000 career penalty minutes over 12 pro seasons.

It really comes down to two teams

The Heartlanders own a combined 23-20-6-2 record against all their opponents but Wichita and Rapid City this season. For some reason, the Mountain’s sixth-place and seventh-place teams have found success, mainly in one-goal decisions; those two teams are 5-2-0-0 in one-goal decisions against Iowa. Against every other opponent, the Heartlanders are 15-4-5-2 in games decided by one.

Only Kalamazoo and Greenville and Reading started the weekend with more one-goal victories than the Heartlanders this season.
