Heartlanders seek Friday Night win against Walleye

Coralville, Iowa – The Iowa Heartlanders, proud ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild and Iowa Wild, look for a home-game reboot on Friday at 6:35 p.m. against the Toledo Walleye. Iowa has five games left in the season, all at Xtream Arena. The Heartlanders had a three-game home winning streak snapped Wednesday against Toledo.

Louis Boudon scored his team-leading 17th goal of the season in the 5-1 defeat Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Walleye have won ten straight games, their longest winning streak of the season and two away from matching the best streak in the ECHL in 2023-24. Toledo clinched the Central Division on Mar. 27 and are a season-best 30 games above hockey .500 (44-14-4-5). Toledo has won 22 road games, third-best in the ECHL, and has fewer losses on the road than at home.

The Heartlanders face Toledo on Saturday, Apr. 6 at 6:05 p.m. to wrap up the season series with the Walleye.

Iowa plays three games next week at home on Wednesday, Apr. 10 at 6:35 vs. Kalamazoo, Friday, Apr. 12 at 6:35 p.m. against Kalamazoo and Saturday, Apr. 13 at 6:05 p.m. against Kansas City.

- Louis Boudon has points in six straight games, tied for his longest streak of the season (3x, 6 straight games with a point).

- The Heartlanders are two home wins away from matching their single-season record (15, 2x, 2021-22 and 2022-23).

Lovely from Louis

Heartlanders rookie forward Louis Boudon leads the team in goals (17), assists (27) and points (44). Wednesday, he chipped in his eight power-play goal of the season (also a team best).

Boudon has three point streaks of at least six games this season. He is one point away from matching Casey Dornbach, his linemate, for the longest point streak of Iowa’s season.

The Grenoble, France native has as many points this season as he did in the 2021-22 season at Lake State University, when he captained the Lakers and finished ninth in the NCAA with 44 points.

Boudon signed an AHL contract for the 2023-24 season with the Iowa Wild last spring.

Scouting Toledo

The Walleye have rattled off a season-high ten straight wins, a streak that started Mar. 15 at Greenville. Since that time, Toledo has outscored opponents, 37-17 (3.7 GF/game | 1.7 GA/game). The streak is Toledo’s longest since the Walleye earned 18 consecutive victories last season.

Toledo clinched the Central Division last week, their sixth time ever clinching a division since the club became the Walleye in the 2009-10 season.

Forward Brandon Hawkins tops the league with 38 goals and 88 points. He is one goal away from matching his career high (39) that he set last season. In 2021-22, Heartlanders forward Kris Bennett and Hawkins were tied for the most goals in the league (35).
