Three games to go for Heartlanders at home

Coralville, Iowa – The Iowa Heartlanders, proud ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild and Iowa Wild, start their final week of the regular season at home against the Kalamazoo Wings Wednesday at 6:35 p.m.

Wednesday’s game features Happy Hour pricing from 5:30-6:45 PM ($6 domestic 20oz draft beers, $3 regular fountain sodas, $3 pretzels, $2.50 hot dogs).

The Heartlanders have had their best success of the season against the K-Wings; Iowa is 6-1-1-1 through nine games of the series.

The clubs face off Wednesday and Friday at 6:35 p.m. to conclude the season series. The Heartlanders are also at home Saturday, Apr. 13 at 6:05 p.m. against Kansas City.

Iowa last played Saturday against Toledo; Jan Bednar denied 33 Heartlanders shots and the Walleye added a late empty-net goal to win 4-1. Pavel Novak scored his 13th of the season for Iowa.

The meeting comes at a critical time for the Wings; Kalamazoo is one point back of Fort Wayne for fourth in the Central Division. The top-four teams in the Central Division qualify for the 2024 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Kalamazoo sits two points behind Wheeling for third. Wheeling and Fort Wayne oppose each other Wednesday, meaning Kalamazoo will either be third, fourth, or fifth at the end of action today.

Need to know

- Pavel Novak has scored in back-to-back games for the third time this season.

- The Heartlanders held Toledo and Kansas City under their season average in goals/game four times over Iowa’s last six contests. The two teams are the best in the ECHL.

- The Heartlanders out shot Toledo twice in their three game series.

Miura sets new high

Yuki Miura assisted Pavel Novak’s goal Saturday and now has a career-best 12 goals and 31 points this season. The third-year professional has been remarkably consistent in his three seasons with the team; he provided ten goals (22 points) as a rookie and 11 goals (30 points) last season.

The Toyko native is Iowa’s all-time games played leader (181) and has played in 140 straight games for Iowa, last missing the Heartlanders’ opening night contest at the start of the 2022-23 season.

Miura moved to Iowa from Europe in 2026-17, starring for the Waterloo Black Hawks (USHL). Following a four-year career at Lake Superior State, he joined Iowa on a try-out contract and made the Heartlanders inaugural season roster after an impressive training camp. He has been with the Landers ever since the 2021 training camp.

Pavel providing spark

Rookie Pavel Novak scored Friday and Saturday for Iowa in the team’s games against the Toledo Walleye. Each of his strikes pulled Iowa within a goal.

The 22-year-old is tied for second on the team with 13 goals (24 points) in 41 games. Novak scored 29 times and generated 72 points for WHL Kelowna in 2021-22. Minnesota selected Novak in the 5th round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
