Coralville, Iowa – The Iowa Heartlanders, proud ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild and Iowa Wild, announced Sophie Williams has been named the team’s Director of Digital Marketing and Content Creation. She is the first full-time marketing employee in Heartlanders history. Williams will be essential in the creation of graphics and video content to expand the Heartlanders brand and enhance the entertainment value at Heartlanders’ home games.
Williams spent the 2023-24 season as Director of Marketing and Social Media for the SPHL’s Fayetteville Marksmen. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 2023 and spent the first two years of her collegiate career at the University of Iowa.
“I’m extremely excited to be back in Iowa City for this opportunity,” Williams said. “While this is a great personal building block, the reason I chose to move back to eastern Iowa is because President Matt Getz explained to me how amazing of a chance this is to build this organization into a great one. This is a tremendous community and our fans are going to be thrilled by the content and engaging things we do at games and on social media.”
While at the University of Michigan, Williams was a member of the Wolverines’ Women’s Hockey team. She served as the team’s social media coordinator and graphic designer for two seasons.
“Sophie is a breath of fresh air,” Getz said. “I’m so pleased with the enthusiasm and creativity she brings every day. Her fearless optimism and commitment to exploring new ideas are attributes I want in every member of this organization. She is the first of several staff additions we’re making this off-season to transform the Iowa Heartlanders into the organization our community wants us to be.”
Originally from Richmond, Virginia, Williams and her black lab Sully are excited to be the newest members of the Heartlanders family.
