David Fine named ECHL Broadcaster of the Year

Coralville, Iowa – Iowa Heartlanders Director of Communications David Fine was named ECHL Broadcaster of the Year Wednesday. He was presented with the award at the 2023-24 ECHL Team Awards. It’s Fine’s first time winning the award. He has been named a finalist for the award in each of his three seasons with the Heartlanders.

Fine broadcasts Heartlanders games on FloHockey, Mixlr and Mediacom MC22. When on Mediacom MC22, Fine broadcasts games with color analyst Chris Peters.

"This is a well-deserved honor for David,” Heartlanders President Matt Getz said. “Throughout the past season, I've not only seen his work ethic and dedication to research and preparation, but fielded dozens of emails from fans raving about the experience he provides listeners across the country. Even more impressive, he's turned my parents into hockey fanatics. They had never paid attention to hockey before I became the Heartlanders' President, and now they won't miss a broadcast. But they don't watch the game; they listen to David Fine's broadcast because they enjoy his commentary more than watching the video stream. In today's digital age, that simply doesn't happen. That's a testament to how great a broadcaster David Fine is."

“Getting to call games with David for the last three seasons, I've had a front-row seat and have benefited greatly from his unrivaled preparation and professionalism,” Peters said. “He brings entertainment, information and excitement to every broadcast, which makes the game that much more enjoyable whether you're watching, listening or having the privilege to be on the call with him.”

Originally from Bloomfield, NJ, Fine has made the Iowa City area his home since moving to the Midwest to become the team’s first-ever Director of Communications in May 2021. A proud graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, Fine is entering his seventh year as a professional hockey broadcaster in 2024-25.
