Coralville, Iowa – The Iowa Heartlanders (5-3-1-0, 11 points) have won five of their last six games and return home for back-to-back contests against the Wichita Thunder (6-4-1-0, 13 points) Friday at 7:00 p.m. Friday is HAWK-EY Night: wear black and gold to support the Heartlanders and the Hawkeyes!

 

Iowa is starting its first three-in-three of the season; the Heartlanders host Wichita Friday and Saturday and visit Bloomington Sunday.

 

The Heartlanders last played Tuesday morning in Kansas City and blasted the Mavericks, 5-3, in the only meeting between the rivals this season. Iowa scored a season-best three power-play goals, the most man-up goals they’ve ever scored in a game against Kansas City. Kyle McClellan blocked 24 shots for his second straight win and Iowa allowed six shots in the third to shut down a comeback attempt.

 

The Heartlanders are third in the Central Division with 11 points. Wichita is tied for second in the Mountain Division with 13 points. The teams play five times this season.

Last Time Out

On Tuesday, the Heartlanders won, 5-3, against Kansas City in the only season series game between the two foes.

 

The Heartlanders scored the first four goals and tallied a season-best three power-play goals. 

 

TJ Walsh scored his first career goal. Matthew Sop, Gavin Hain, and Louka Henault each had multiple points in the game. Hain has four straight multi-point games.

 

Power Play Success

The Heartlanders have the top power play in the league, with a 33.3 power play percentage. They have scored ten power-play goals on 30 opportunities.

 

Last year, the Heartlanders finished the season ranked 22nd on the man advantage with an 18.1% conversion rate.

 

Matthew Sop and Louka Henault lead the team with two power-play goals each.
