Bloomington, IL-  The Iowa Heartlanders (7-3-2-0, 16 points) are on the road to take on the Bloomington Bison (5-6-0-1, 11 points) yet again on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7:00 p.m. 

 

This will be the second of six consecutive matchups between the divisional rivals. 

 

The Heartlanders are next at home on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 3:00 p.m. for Rumble at the Rink, a wrestling-themed afternoon matchup against the Bison.

Need To Know:
- Iowa is 3-1-1-0 in the season series vs. Bloomington.
- Iowa has scored first in eight of their last nine games, with the lone exception on Nov. 17 at Bloomington.
- Matthew Sop (8 points) and Gavin Hain (7 points) were ranked first and second in the ECHL in points last week.

Top Line Buzzin

Iowa’s top line - Will Calverley, Gavin Hain, and Matthew Sop - have had success together this season. 

 

Calverley stands at third on the team for goals and points with five goals and nine points in 12 games played. 

 

Hain has shined since returning to the team on Oct. 30. He has registered points in seven of eight games played, totaling 14 points (6 goals) so far. 

 

Rookie Matthew Sop leads the team in goals and points (7g, 19pts.) in 12 games. Sop entered the weekend third in the league in points (before Friday action). 

 

Last time out

The Heartlanders snapped a four-game win streak on Sunday, Nov. 17, falling 3-2 in overtime against the Bison in Bloomington. The Bison took a 2-0 lead in the second, but the Heartlanders battled back to tie it up in the third, forcing overtime and stealing a point from the match. 

 

Sop (1g) and Hain (1a) extended their point streaks to seven games. 

 

Five Game Point Streak

The Heartlanders are currently on a five-game point streak, winning four of the five games, and losing one in overtime. 

 

This is the sixth time the Heartlanders have had a point streak lasting five or more games in team history. The first came in their inaugural 2021-22 season, when they took points in five straight from Jan. 9-16. 

 

The longest point streak in team history came in Nov. 2023, lasting nine games from Nov. 8-25. Iowa won seven straight, lost one in the shootout, and took one more win at Wheeling to complete the streak. 



 

First Period Success

Entering the weekend, the Heartlanders had the best first period goal differential in the league at +10, netting 14 goals and only allowing four against. 

 

Iowa has scored first in eight of their last nine games. The Heartlanders have gone 7-1-1-0 through those nine games. Iowa has not trailed after the first period in any game.
