Preview: Iowa gears up for weekend series at Indy

Fishers, IN – The Iowa Heartlanders (10-5-3-0, 23 points) oppose the Indy Fuel (8-5-0-1, 17 points) Friday at 6:00 p.m. in the first game of the season series Friday at 6:00 p.m. The Heartlanders are in their second game of a three-game road trip.

Iowa has won three straight games and came from behind for their last victory, 3-2, in overtime over Toledo Wednesday. Yuki Miura scored the winner at 1:11 of the extra session, his second career OT winner with Iowa and first since Dec. 2022 against Kalamazoo. With the goal, Miura tied Zach White for the team record in career points (91). 

Indy is playing their first home game of the season; the team opened with 15 straight on the road to allow the brand-new Fishers Event Center to finish preparation and construction. The Fuel played at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum for the first ten seasons of their ECHL history (2014-24). 

The Heartlanders are tied with Fort Wayne for second in the Central Division. Indy is tied with Bloomington for fourth.

Appreciating the Cap

Iowa’s Yuki Miura, the longest-tenured player in team history, registered his 91^st career point to tie Zach White’s team record Wednesday at Toledo. 

The 28-year-old increased his points production in each of first three seasons with the team, capturing a career-best 12 goals and 32 points last season. 

This season, the Toyko, Japan native has generated three goals and seven points. 

Miura is Iowa’s all-time leader in games played (202) and assists (55). He’s two goals back of White’s record for goals in team history (38). 

Miura is in his third season wearing a letter for Iowa and first season as the “C”.
