Season Series
The Iowa-Toledo season series has arguably been the most-exciting of any division matchups this season for the Heartlanders. Four of the first eight games have gone to overtime and seven of the games have either been tied or within a goal in the third period. Iowa finished the home slate of the season series with back-to-back wins against the Walleye.
Iowa has scored 26 goals and Toledo has scored 25 goals in the series.
More remarkable about this season, Iowa won five games against the Walleye (3 at home, 2 on road) in the first three years combined of Heartlanders history. This season, Iowa won the season series against the Walleye for the first time ever by taking five games.
Will Calverley leads Iowa with five assists and eight points against the Walleye. T.J. Walsh tops all players with six goals in the series. Sam Craggs has eight points to lead the Walleye.
McClellan’s February
Heartlanders rookie goaltender Kyle McClellan won his 11th game of the season Wednesday vs. Bloomington, making 16 saves in a 4-1 victory. Over his last four games, the 6-foot-1, 185-lb., left-handed catcher has gone 3-1-0-0, allowed four goals and registered a shutout vs. Cincinnati, lowering his goals-against average to 2.63.
Of note, McClellan has often been in net when the Heartlanders have limited shots; he’s won four games when making 20 saves or fewer and has faced 25 shots or fewer in a game ten times.
The Manchester, MO native won the Mike Richter Award for top NCAA netminder last season at Wisconsin.
