Heartlanders have won three straight, oppose Wings Saturday

Kalamazoo, MI – The Iowa Heartlanders (25-14-4-3, 57 points) complete the weekend at the Kalamazoo Wings (16-24-1-1, 34 points) Saturday at 6:00 p.m. Iowa is in the finale of five of six games against the Wings.

Friday, the Heartlanders gutted out a 4-1 win behind 29 saves from William Rousseau and two goals from Ryan Miotto. The Heartlanders scored a pair of empty-net goals from Miotto and Yuki Miura to put the game away late in the third. 

Iowa has won three straight games and allowed two total goals in that span.

The Heartlanders are second in the Central Division and the Kalamazoo Wings are seventh in the Central Division.

Keltie with a strong debut

Keltie Jeri-Leon scored in his Heartlanders debut to give Iowa their first goal Friday. The Heartlanders rallied behind Jeri-Leon to score four unanswered for a 4-1 win. 

Acquired by Iowa Wednesday from Savannah, Jeri-Leon had made a knack of scoring against Iowa with Wheeling and Rapid City, tallying eight points, seven goals and three multi-goal games in nine contests. 

Jeri-Leon, a fourth-year pro, has tallied more than 100 points in his ECHL career.

Saturday record 

The Heartlanders have their winningest record on Saturdays this season (9-3-1-1), including a 4-2-0-0 mark on the road this season. Last Saturday at Xtream Arena vs. Kalamazoo, Iowa dropped their first “home Saturday” in regulation this entire season; the Heartlanders own a 5-1-1-1 mark at Xtream Arena on Saturdays. 

In Iowa’s last road Saturday game Jan. 25 at Toledo, the Heartlanders overcame a 2-0 deficit to win, 4-3, in overtime. 

Similar to Iowa, Kalamazoo also owns their winningest mark on Saturdays this season (8-8-0-0). 

Super Jazzed For Super Bowl Sunday

The Heartlanders will enjoy their first Sunday off since the ECHL holiday break tomorrow, the first time in seven weeks Iowa has a weekend off day. Though Iowa still plays three games this week, the Heartlanders ended a stretch of six straight three-in-threes last weekend against the Wings.

The entire ECHL is off for Super Bowl Sunday.

Iowa starts a four-game homestand vs. Cincinnati next Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 7:00 p.m.
