A streak comes to an end, but we appreciate it
Rookie netminder William Rousseau suffered a regulation loss in Wednesday’s 4-1 defeat, his first since Nov. 3 at Tulsa. The loss concluded a remarkable streak in which he went 11-0-3 over his last 14 decisions, easily the best “personal point streak” for a goaltender in Heartlanders history. Prior to this streak, the next best was seven straight games by Peyton Jones in 2023-24 (6-0-1-0 record), and only two other goaltenders in team history ever had a stretch of six straight undefeated in regulation (Corbin Kaczperski and Hunter Jones).
During those 14 decisions, Rousseau allowed two or fewer goals eight times and registered two shutouts, becoming the first Iowa goaltender ever to record more than one shutout in his career. Kyle McClellan has since matched him with a pair of blankings this season.
Scouting the Walleye
The Walleye are top of the Central Division and lead the Western Conference with 68 points in the standings, two points back of first in the league Florida. Toledo is on a season-best six-game win streak, going back to Jan. 26.
Brandon Hawkins leads the league with 63 points and is second in the ECHL with 27 goals. Known as “The Mayor” of Toledo, the fourth-year Walleye forward is looking to lead Toledo to their first-ever Kelly Cup.
The Walleye’s leading goaltender Jan Bednar has recorded 18 wins so far this season (2.26 GAA, .915 sv.%).
