Know Before You Go Guide For Home Games
Coralville, Iowa – The Iowa Heartlanders (34-23-7-4, 79 points) have three home games this week before the start of the 2025 Kelly Cup Playoffs; the final week begins with a showdown against the Cincinnati Cyclones (27-32-10-0, 64 points) Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
In Iowa’s last game Sunday, the Heartlanders fell to the Norfolk Admirals, 5-3. Jonny Sorenson scored two goals in the defeat, and Matt Hubbbarde earned his second professional goal.
Cincinnati is coming off a 7-0 loss at Fort Wayne Sunday.
Iowa plays Cincinnati on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, then visits Kalamazoo Sunday.
The Heartlanders are third in the Central Division. Iowa can secure the second seed if the team wins all four remaining games AND Fort Wayne loses their final three games of the season in regulation.
Cincinnati is seventh in the Central Division but has a path to the playoffs if they win their final three games, have Indy lose their final four games in regulation, and receive help with a couple of losses from Bloomington and Kalamazoo.

- Wednesday is Iowa’s first head-to-head game vs. Cincinnati since Feb. 21. The teams are tied 3-3-0-0 in the season series.
- The Heartlanders have points in four of six games (3-2-1-0).
- William Rousseau was loaned to the Heartlanders from the Iowa Wild Monday.
Sorenson Scoring
Rookie Jonny Sorenson has three multi-goal games this season, the second-most on the team. Captain Yuki Miura leads the team with five. It marked Sorenson’s first multi-goal game since his hat trick vs. Tahoe on Jan. 17.
Sorenson also tallied two goals against Bloomington on Dec. 1.
The left-handed shot has 13 goals (t-4th on team) and 30 points (5th). He is a plus-five. Also of note, 11 of Sorenson’s strikes have been at 5-on-5.
Sop produces a few points on weekend
Rookie Matt Sop earned his 30th point of the season with an assist Sunday against Norfolk. Despite being held without a goal, Sop created two assists last week against the Admirals. His first on Friday tied the game with less than five minutes to go on the power play.
The 22-year-old native of Kitchener, ON has generated 1.11 points per game this season, a few-hundredths behind Savannah forward Riley Hughes (1.15 pts/game) for the rookie leader this regular season.
City of Coralville formally recognizes Heartlanders for making playoffs
The City of Coralville formally recognized the 2024-25 Iowa Heartlanders for making the 2025 Kelly Cup Playoffs Tuesday, Apr. 8 at the Coralville City Council Meeting. Head Coach Derek Damon, Heartlanders captain Yuki Miura and Heartlanders fans were in attendance as the city to celebrate our first-ever playoff berth!
