Pre-holiday facts
The Heartlanders are 2-2-0-0 ever in games before the ECHL holiday break.
In Iowa’s first season, goaltender Trevin Kozlowski and captain Kris Bennett were each sent down on the day of the final game before the break at Kansas City and played starring roles in a 3-2 victory. Both Bennett and Kozlowski had slight travel snafus (their first Uber driver didn’t want to drive them three hours from Des Moines to Independence and refused to take them), but Bennett and Kozlowski finally found a willing driver who got them to Missouri two hours before puck drop. Bennett scored the game-winning goal with six minutes to go and Kozlowski made 32 saves in a 3-2 win at the Mavericks.
Last season, the Heartlanders swarmed Bloomington with four goals in the first, two short-handed goals and 29 saves from William Rousseau to dominate the final game before Christmas, 6-1. Yuki Miura scored twice in the victory. That game is the only time ever the Heartlanders have scored two short-handed goals.
