Coralville, Iowa – The Iowa Heartlanders (9-21-2-0, 20 pts.) are back at home for the first time in a month to oppose the Kalamazoo Wings (12-14-2-2, 28 pts.) Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The Heartlanders last played at home on Dec. 17.
Wednesday is the final of three straight against the Wings. The next time these teams play is a month from now, the final three games of the season series, at Xtream Arena Feb. 11, Feb. 13 and Feb. 14.
The Heartlanders are 1-3-1-0 in the season series vs. Kalamazoo.
Iowa last played the K-Wings Sunday at the Wings Event Center and the Heartlanders fell, 4-3. Rasmus Kumpulainen scored twice, tallying back-to-back goals to tie the score at two after Kalamazoo scored the opening two goals. Stevie Leskovar also scored, but the Wings registered back-to-back goals in the final eight minutes of the game to overcome a 3-2 deficit.

Rasmus nets a pair
Forward Rasmus Kumpulainen registered his first career multi-goal game in North America in Sunday’s 4-3 defeat at Kalamazoo. He scored back-to-back goals at the net front (one at the right post, his second at the left post) to tie the score at two. A 2023 second round pick by Minnesota (53rd overall), Kumpulainen generated a pair of assists in his first 26 games of the season with the Iowa Wild. He is the youngest player in Heartlanders history, born in Aug. 2005 (20 years old).
Kumpulainen has represented Finland multiple times at the international level, including in back-to-back World Junior Championships in 2024 and 2025 (silver medal).
Last season, his first as a pro, he netted eight goals and 16 points in Finland’s top league (Liiga) for Pelicans. Prior to that, the 6-foot-4, 212-lb.., left-handed shots scored 28 goals and 56 points from OHL Oshawa in 2023-24.
