Heartlanders start weekend vs. red-hot Mavericks

Coralville, Iowa – The Iowa Heartlanders (11-24-2-1, 25 pts.) start a three-game homestand against the league-best Kansas City Mavericks (29-7-1-1, 60 pts.) Friday at 7:00 p.m. on Y2K Night, presented by Performance Health & Fitness. The Heartlanders have points in three of four games for the first time this month (2-1-0-1 record), while Kansas City has tied a team record with wins in 14 straight games.

 

The Heartlanders have earned points in their last two games for the first time in the calendar year as well, taking three of a possible four points at Jacksonville last Saturday and Sunday. Iowa dominated the third period with three goals for a 5-1 win on Saturday. On Sunday, the Heartlanders and Icemen each scored in the final minute, and the Icemen won it in the skills competition, 3-2.

 

The Mavericks are coming off a 4-3 overtime win against Tahoe Jan. 24; Jimmy Glynn netted the winning goal. Kansas City hasn’t lost since Dec. 19 at home against Utah, 7-4. Since then, the Mavericks have won ten straight home games of their 14 victories. Additionally, KC is on a five-game road winning streak and a nine-game road points streak, with their only road regulation loss of the season coming Nov. 29 at Wichita. The Mavericks have outscored opponents, 54-21, over the last 14 games.

 

Tickets start at $10 for all Iowa Heartlanders home games. Sat., Jan. 31 at 6:00 p.m. is EmpowerHer Night: Celebrating Women in Sports, pres. by the Iowa City Area Sports Commission. The Heartlanders complete the weekend on Video Game Day vs. Indy on Sun., Feb. 1 at 3:00 p.m.
