Fort Wayne, IN - The Iowa Heartlanders (12-26-2-2, 28 pts.) start the weekend with a matchup at the Fort Wayne Komets (23-11-7-0, 53 pts.) and visit the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum for the first time this season Friday at 6:35 p.m. These teams played in the Kelly Cup Playoffs last season, but Friday marks Iowa’s first regular season trip to Fort Wayne since Jan. 7, 2024 (761 days), a 3-2 Heartlanders win.
The Heartlanders are in the middle of their longest remaining “mileage” road trip this regular season, a 1,400-mile swing that started in Kansas City Wednesday. Iowa completes the road trip at Indy Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
Wednesday, Iowa’s Matt Sop tied the game at one midway through the first, but Kansas City scored the next three and won, 4-1.
The Komets also played Wednesday against Wheeling and took 55 shots in a 3-2 overtime loss. Wheeling’s Taylor Gauthier blocked 53 shots in the win.

Season Series Fort Wayne
The Heartlanders and Komets face off seven times this season and Iowa has four more games on the road against Fort Wayne this regular season. Iowa hosted Fort Wayne three times from Oct. 29-Nov. 1, all Komets wins.
Iowa has scored three goals in the season series. Jaxon Nelson tops Iowa with two points (1g) vs. Fort Wayne, but is currently recalled to the Iowa Wild.
Josh Groll leads all players with six points and is tied with teammate James Stefan with three goals.
Samuel Jonsson, an ECHL All-Star selection, has two shutouts vs. Iowa this season and has stopped all 44 shots faced in the season series.
The Heartlanders visit Fort Wayne again on Feb. 11 and then complete the season series with back-to-back road matchups Apr. 3-4.
Iowa is 5-5-0-1 ever at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
