Coralville, Iowa – The Iowa Heartlanders (15-28-2-2, 34 pts.) are coming off back-to-back wins and host the Wichita Thunder (21-18-3-4, 49 pts.) Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday is the only game of the season series vs. Wichita, the fewest these teams have ever played in any season of Iowa history.
The Heartlanders last played Saturday at home and ignited offensively in a 6-4 win. Iowa has back-to-back wins at home for the second time this season and have won two straight for the third time this campaign. Twelve Heartlanders registered points and Riley Mercer won his third straight start.
Wichita has won four of their last five games and two straight entering Wednesday’s showdown. The Thunder are starting a 12-game road trip that will take them to Coralville, Kansas City, Idaho, Indy, Toledo and Rapid City over the next month. The Thunder bested Idaho in back-to-back games Saturday (4-1 win) and Sunday (4-1 win) at home.

The last time Iowa and Wichita played was arguably the most memorable Iowa overtime loss ever, the Heartlanders earned a point in a 3-2 OTL but by earning the point clinched the team’s first ever berth in the Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Heartlanders outshot Wichita, 44-22, in that game in Roddy Ross’ first-ever pro appearance.
