Coralville, Iowa – The Iowa Heartlanders are excited to announce that Athletic Trainer Da’Shawn Tolbert has been named Assistant Athletic Trainer for the AHL’s Texas Stars. Tolbert worked with the Heartlanders in 2024-25 and joins Jason Geisler (assistant ATC for Iowa Wild) as Heartlanders athetic trainers to advance to the AHL under the team’s proud partnership with University of Iowa Health Care Sports Medicine.
“We are so thrilled for Da’Shawn to take this next step in his career,” Heartlanders President Matt Getz said. “Similar to our players’ development, we care deeply about the progression of our front office staff and hockey operations staff to follow their dreams and advance to higher levels. We know he will do great things in Texas.”
Tolbert is one of a number of rising stars on the support staff and hockey operations side that have excelled with the Heartlanders before advancing up the ranks. Geisler (Heartlanders 2023-24) and Strength & Conditioning Coach Bryan Rohrbach (2021-24 Heartlanders) each now hold roles with the Iowa Wild. Last month, former Heartlanders Video Coach/Dir. Of Hockey Operations Eric Michaud accepted a role with the Iowa Wild as the team’s video coach. Former Heartlanders video coach Amir Gulati (2021-22) now works as video coordinator for the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres.
The Heartlanders now seek the team’s next athletic trainer to help the team build off their best season ever, which culminated in Iowa’s first-ever appearance in the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Make sure you’re here: Single-game tickets and the team’s theme night schedule are now out for the 2025-26 season as the Heartlanders open the team’s fifth season at Xtream Arena on Friday, Oct. 17 vs. Tulsa.
